TEMPLE SUZANI SILK EMBROIDERY

The inspiration of the embroidery comes from the artist Michelangelo and his work during the Renaissance. The handle reflects the natural, sculptural qualities found in his art while connecting to key ideas of the Renaissance, including an appreciation of nature, the revival of classical learning, and a more individualistic understanding of the human experience. I wanted to recreate the bags as sculptural objects, giving them the presence and character of a piece of art. The handmade embroidery adds another layer of craftsmanship, creating a sense of history, individuality, and a touch from nature. Together, embroidered details Suzani made by Madina Kasimbaeva transform the bags from functional objects into wearable sculptures. The Temple handbag line is inspired by the historic Paris neighborhood where Susan once lived, evoking the architectural grandeur of Rue du Temple.
