Blanche

The magnolias came from trees near my home, gathered at different moments in their brief lives. Some are newly opened and almost impossibly white, while others have already begun to brown and soften. I arranged them in an old silver vessel and photographed them against the darkness, letting the light find each flower differently. I love magnolias for their beauty, but even more for how quickly that beauty changes. Blanche is about that fleeting moment, and the beauty that remains as something begins to fade.
