La Patine | Yu-momiji

A layered construction of pitch black, burgundy, black crimson, and maple crimson, built around Japan's particular reading of autumn. The name refers directly to the crimson maple leaf emerging from darkness. It surfaces in its own time. As light moves across the shoe, faint red shows from within the black, present one moment and gone the next. This reflects how autumn is understood in Japanese tradition. It carries its own weight, and a degree of melancholy that is accepted rather than avoided.
