Sally Stanford: We Sinners Never Give Up Unisex T-Shirt
Celebrating Sausalito’s own, Salty Sally Stanford. The brothel-running, “undisputed queen of San Francisco nightlife,” Sally Stanford moved from San Francisco to Sausalito in the 1950s to start a restaurant. A fight with the city of Sausalito on the Valhalla’s electric sign installation helped spark an interest in city politics. After six tries, she landed her spot on the Sausalito City Council. In 1976, she became Mayor. The victory party lasted until practically daylight. “We sinners never give up,” Stanford proclaimed. We support that. Photo courtesy of Peter Breinig / The Chronicle 1972
