Sun 23 Aug: The Dirt Social
Discover the Roads Less Travelled Join us for The Dirt Social, a relaxed introduction to the world of soft roading, designed for riders who want to explore the UK's network of Byways Open to All Traffic (BOATs) and unsealed roads without tackling extreme off-road terrain. Ever wondered where those little green lanes on the map actually go? This is not an enduro day or motocross experience. Instead, it's about building confidence, learning new skills and discovering a completely different side of motorcycling. Whether you ride an adventure bike, scrambler or even something more road-focused with suitable tyres, we'll show you how enjoyable venturing off the tarmac can be. What is Soft Roading? Soft roading uses legal Byways Open to All Traffic (BOATs), unsurfaced roads and gentle trails that remain public highways. You'll learn how to: Ride safely on loose gravel, dirt and uneven surfaces Improve slow-speed balance and bike control Choose the correct riding position Read the terrain ahead Build confidence away from the tarmac Understand responsible green lane riding and countryside etiquette There are no races, no pressure and no expectation of previous off-road experience. Guided Ride Throughout the day we'll be riding a carefully planned route using BOATs and quiet lanes across Hertfordshire and the surrounding countryside. Experienced ride leaders will be on hand throughout the day to offer advice, encouragement and tips as your confidence grows. There will be plenty of opportunities to stop, ask questions, take photos and enjoy the scenery. Is This Event For Me? This day is ideal if you: Have always wanted to try green laning Own an adventure bike or scrambler but have never taken it off road Want to improve your bike handling skills Enjoy exploring places most riders never see Prefer a relaxed, social riding day rather than a challenging off-road experience If you can confidently ride on the road, we'll help you with the rest. Suitable Motorcycles Most adventure bikes, scramblers and dual-purpose motorcycles are suitable. Examples include: Harley-Davidson Pan America Triumph Scrambler Triumph Tiger BMW GS models Honda Africa Twin Honda Transalp Yamaha Ténéré 700 Suzuki V-Strom Royal Enfield Himalayan & Scram411 KTM Ducati DesertX If you're unsure whether your bike is suitable, just get in touch before booking. Ride Information Small guided groups Regular breaks throughout the day Café stop included Gentle pace designed around learning Approximately one full day's riding Respecting the Countryside The Dirt Social is about responsible riding. Come and discover a side of Hertfordshire that most riders never get to see, meet like-minded people and learn skills that will make you a more confident motorcyclist on every ride. There is charge for this event, but it will include a free drink and cake. 15 spaces are available to keep groups small, so early booking is recommended.
