Salter, R.N.; British War and Victory Medals, Payr. Lt. Cr. T.M. Salter. R.N. Terence MacLeane Salter was born on the 5th February 1883 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. He enlisted in the Royal Navy in 1900. Serving on various ships and shore bases, including, Impregnable, Majestic, Leander, Prince of Wales, Swiftsure, Sphinx, East Indies, Brilliant, Constance, Glory, Hood, amongst many others. Served in Simons town, South Africa Naval Base 1907 to 1931. Paymaster March 1915 Paymaster Commander March 1922 The 1970 Navy list shows him as a retired Captain. He was also a well known botanist / plant collector in South Africa, he sent plants to Kew Gardens and the Natural History Museum and published “Flora of the Cape Peninsular” in 1950 and became a renowned expert He died on the 30th March 1969 in Cape Town, South Africa.
