By the summer of 1996, the world had finally caught up with Butthole Surfers. Their album Electriclarryland introduced the band to a wider audience through the unlikely radio hit “Pepper,” while remaining unmistakably their own: a volatile mix of punk rave-ups, freak rock and surreal singalongs, populated by the degenerates, dreamers and assorted weirdos that only this band could conjure.
