A bodice piece from a baby's outfit, circa early 20th century, hand-stitched in colorful silk floss on a dark cotton ground, with front and back panels connected at two corners and an opening for the head. The design centers on a radiating sunburst of looped, scrolling embroidery surrounding the neck opening, bordered by rows of small floral and geometric motifs in purple, orange, and cream. The piece is lined in a printed paisley cotton. According to the seller, the piece was likely handed down through generations within a family. Sourced in Afghanistan in the late 1970s.
