The Cartier Baguette Coulissant "Secret Watch" features an elegant rectangular case with sliding cover that conceals the dial —a quintessential Art Deco design synonymous with the Parisian maison. It is adorned with black Arabic numerals and blued hands, while a Jaeger-LeCoultre manual-winding mechanical movement resides within. Any serious collectors of Cartier know that production in the pre-consolidation era prior to 1972 was dramatically smaller, making these pieces truly rare to come across. Adding to the model’s modern appeal, the Baguette Coulissant has also been worn by musician and noted watch collector Tyler, The Creator, whose enthusiasm for Cartier has helped introduce the maison’s distinctive vintage designs to a new generation of collectors. This example on offer has remained in beautiful vintage condition, especially considering its near 90 year age today. The dial is fantastic and has a warm and even "parchment" patina throughout. There are some small areas of wear but they are not distracting and it presents very well overall. The case retains strong dimensions with numbering still clearly visible and crisp hallmarks. There is an engraving on the sliding cover that we've opted to leave for its history but we have resources to have it removed with laser/polishing. It is fitted to a custom made Cartier strap in glossy black gator with 18k Cartier pin buckle. We cannot think of a more special and charming conversation starter for the wrist of its next custodian.
