Silver claw set amethyst ring
A classic sterling silver claw-set ring, but instead of the faceted gemstone you might expect, I’ve chosen a beautiful 10 x 8mm lavender amethyst cut as a cabochon. A cabochon is polished into a smooth, rounded dome rather than being cut with facets. Without those sparkling faces, the beauty of the stone comes from its colour and soft glow instead. I love the way this lavender amethyst catches the light with a gentle luminosity, giving the ring a quieter, more understated elegance. This ring is a reminder that traditional designs don’t have to be ordinary. A simple change in the cut of a gemstone can completely transform the character of a piece. This ring is currently a size N but can be made to order in any size. This piece is part of my 52 Ring Project, a personal challenge inspired by rediscovering a long-forgotten collection of gemstones. After moving to Dorset, I unpacked two boxes of stones that had remained untouched for several years — some of which I have owned for over fifteen years. After carefully sorting and organising them by type, size and colour, I decided to bring them back into use by creating one ring each week over the course of a year. Each ring in the collection is made using a different gemstone, giving every piece its own character and story.
