Senior Jazz Band - AIBF Edmonton
Jazz Performance Each Ensemble is allocated a maximum of 45 minutes for performance and clinic. Senior (Grades 5-6) Ideal for: Advanced high school bands, college ensembles, or semi-professional groups with highly skilled musicians. Grade 5 (Advanced): Description: For mature ensembles with a deep understanding of jazz techniques. Music at this level requires strong technical skills, sophisticated ensemble playing, and advanced improvisational abilities. Typical Characteristics: Complex time signatures, intricate rhythms, sophisticated harmonic progressions, and advanced form. Solos demand advanced improvisation over challenging chord changes, often requiring knowledge of modes and altered scales. Grade 6 (Very Advanced/Professional): Description: Suitable for top-level high school, college, or professional jazz bands. The music is highly demanding, both technically and musically, requiring exceptional precision, interpretation, and improvisational skill. Typical Characteristics: Extremely complex rhythms and syncopation, frequent meter changes, highly advanced harmonic language, and extended forms. Solos require expert-level improvisation and deep understanding of jazz theory and harmony.
