Connecting Movement to Emotion
Saturday, August 30 | 5:00 PM | 90 minutes The perfect follow-up to Intro to Polesque (or a powerful standalone workshop). This intervention dives into one of the most essential elements of storytelling and dance: your emotions. How to feel them, express them, and share them with an audience. We’ll explore emotion through a series of exercises, including rasa boxes (assigning emotions to poles and exploring how each one feels in your body and reads to others), loosely structured choreography with room for freestyle, and a discussion on the universality of body language and facial expression. We’ll close it out with a round of pole-ified charades — a gamified way to practice everything we’ve learned. What to expect: Guided warm-up, rasa box work, freestyle exploration, and a playful finish. This class can get emotionally heavy — come ready to be vulnerable, and ready to receive vulnerability from your classmates. What to bring: Knee pads, tissues, water, and an open mind. Prerequisites: Not recommended as your first pole class. Beginner-friendly, but you should be comfortable with at least 3 moves (walk, pirouette, fire spin, etc.) since we’ll be freestyling.
