Button Carving Workshop
An intimate button-making workshop inspired by the collaboration of Katya Koroscil and Grays and the Ontario wool High Neck Coat. This three-hour workshop guided by Katya Koroscil will explore the translation of hand-carved wax into lasting metal objects. Working with wax as a responsive and temporary medium, participants will develop a small series of button studies, refining forms through direct material engagement before selecting one or more pieces for casting. The focus is on process, touch, and proportion, how small, intuitive actions become permanent forms in metal. No prior experience with wax carving or metalwork is required. All instruction, materials, and tools are provided. -Participant Options- Create multiple button designs during the workshop Select one or a small series for casting Pay additional casting cost beyond credit if needed Pay additional for mounting hardware options -What to Bring- Images, examples, or a garment you'd like to design for, or simply come ready to explore form. -Casting Options- Select one piece or a small series in sterling silver, yellow bronze, white bronze, or pewter with your choice of high-shine polish or brushed finish. Your workshop includes a $50 casting credit (one 20mm sterling silver button, or multiple bronze/pewter buttons). Larger or additional buttons are charged at the current market cost and can be weighed during the workshop. When you arrive, you’ll be asked to sign a simple safety release form before we begin. Please tie back hair that is longer than shoulder length. We also recommend keeping nails short, as filing can be easier that way. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian and will use alternate tools.
