Made on 30th March way back in 1973, this is a super rare UK Hayman 4040 bass. I have to say for a 53 year old it is in great "player grade" condition. This one comes in just a fraction over 9lb, which is a pretty light example. It is near impossible to find a 100% original one as not many were made and parts do wear over time. This one does not have the lucite clear bridge, the most commonly missing part! A traditional 4 saddle adjustable bridge has been fitted. It appears that the edges have been shaped in the past. The rest of the bass looks to be original including the electrics and pickups. One metal cover plate was missing from half of a pickup so we made one to replace it. It is fully working and has a wonderful tonal range, really wide thanks to that bridge pickup position so close to the bridge. The neck shape is pretty unique and vert comfortable, while being narrow/close to a jazz bass width, the profile is a smooth "D", so slightly square looking. This is not only a fabulous piece of the UK guitar makers history involving Burns/Hayman/Shergold but also a fantastic palying bass with a truly unique look.
