Historically, it was worn by kings, chiefs, and nobility. Over time, it became more accessible to the public but the ceremonial importance remains. The traditional weaving process involves narrow strips woven on a horizontal loom. The strips are then sewn together to form a larger cloth. Designs are created through complex, interlacing techniques. Kente is worn for the installations of chiefs, weddings, funerals, festivals, and graduations. It is a marker of identity, prestige, and heritage. We were intentional about producing kente sashes at the highest level, using exceptionally high-quality kente cloth that is handcrafted in Ghana and then shipped to Senegal where our team of artisans produces the sashes.
