Sweet little 'Welsh Costumes' cup and saucer. There are many different depictions of Welsh Costumes and rural life in Wales to be collected. The arrival of the railways in the late 19th Century led to the production of souvenir prints, China and postcards. Your chance to own and cherish a piece of Welsh rural history. Welsh Costume tea set displaying Welsh ladies and men at a wedding, at market and (on the saucer) at a bidding in Wales The cup says "A Present from Llandilo" in gold script - which was the official spelling of the urban district until 1957, when it was changed to 'Llandeilo' to better reflect modern Welsh orthography. Illustration present on both sides of cup The illustration was transfer printed and hand painted. Late 19th to early 20th century Maker's marks on both cup and saucer say Wetley China Made in England Measurements: saucer 14 cm diameter, cup 7 cm high, 8 cm diameter, 10 cm including handle Condition: Very good Gold rim has rubbed off in places on the cup.
