My Country Dreaming Artist: Sharon Numina Region: Utopia / Central Desert – based in Darwin, NT Medium: Acrylic on canvas Size: 111 x 63 cm Shipping: FREE (Rolled / Unstretched) Artwork Description “My Country Dreaming” by Aboriginal artist Sharon Numina is a deeply personal celebration of her Ancestral homelands and the women’s stories carried through that Country. In Sharon’s work, “Country” is not just a place on a map – it is family, law, language, ceremony, identity and memory all held in the land. The layered patterns, tracks and flowing forms in “My Country Dreaming” echo Ancestral pathways and songlines – routes travelled by Creation Ancestors that continue to guide how people relate to land and each other. Sharon’s painting honours the resilience of Aboriginal women as cultural custodians. It speaks to the ongoing relationship they have with their homelands—whether they are living on Country or away from it—and the responsibility they carry to keep stories, languages and Law alive. For collectors, “My Country Dreaming” is not only visually striking; it is a living expression of Sharon’s continuing connection to her Country and of the central role Aboriginal women play as knowledge-holders, protectors and storytellers in their communities today. Artist Profile – Sharon Numina (b. 1981) Sharon Numina is a respected younger member of the Numina Sisters, an influential family of desert artists whose works are collected across Australia and internationally. Born in 1981, Sharon completed schooling at Kormilda College in Darwin. She is one of six sisters and two brothers. Her mother, Barbara Price Mbitjana, a senior artist from Stirling Station near Tennant Creek, taught Sharon and her sisters to paint and passed down important cultural stories. Sharon’s late father was from Utopia, further connecting her to one of Australia’s most significant Aboriginal art regions. Sharon’s paintings draw from both her mother’s and father’s Country and often depict Bush Tucker, Goanna, Dingo Tracks and other ancestral narratives. Her extended family includes celebrated artists Gloria Petyarre and Kathleen Petyarre, whose works have helped shape the global recognition of Central Desert art. Now based in Darwin, NT, Sharon paints alongside several of her sisters, continuing the Numina legacy with works admired for their movement, detail, and cultural depth.
