The estate takes its name from the stream running through the property: the prefix "Ka" in "Kamavindi" means "place," while "mavindi" refers to the inedible part of the yam. Before British colonization, yams were a key cash crop in Embu. Villagers washed yams in streams, leaving the root cuttings intended for replanting to take root and grow. Thus, the estate's name carries a beautiful meaning of abundant land and enduring family legacy.
