8 5/8 x 8 5/8 x 11 3/4 inches. The Wind Flower series began in late 2023 but stems from one of Bavin’s longest running series; the Wind series, which was conceived in 1989. The glass flowers, called Millefiori, are first made separately in a lengthy process. The colours of glass for the flower petals and centre are melted separately, shaped and pulled out into long canes. Once cooled, the canes are carefully clustered together to form the flower pattern, melted into one piece, and then stretched out into a cane that will later be cut into small sections to be used in the creation of a vase. The Italian term “Millefiori” translates to “thousand flowers,” which not only refers to the decorative elements we have created, but also the vase function of these vessels.
