2026 Autumn Certified Kintsugi Professionalist Course (For those has passed the Specialist Exams) by Kintsugi Japan EU Branch GENERAL INTRODUCTION: The Kintsugi Professional Certification Course is a program jointly organized by the Kintsugi Japan (EU Branch-registered in EU IPO) and the Finland Kintsugi Association. We are proud to offer the only Kintsugi Japan certified course in Europe. The course is led by LiLi, a certified Kintsugi-shi by Kintsugi Japan with extensive experience in natural Kintsugi techniques, who graduated from Kintsugi Japan Headquarter The course is divided into two main components: 1. Theoretical study 2. Practical application. Instructing languages: English (also possible in Japanese or Chinese ,a little of Finnish) This course is designed for those who have successfully completed the first year of studies and passed the Specialist Course exams. COURSE STRUCTURE The program consists of two main components: 1. Theory Studies History of Kintsugi History and types of Maki-e Maki-e materials and techniques Tools and materials used in Kintsugi Step-by-step repair process 2. Practical Studies Repairing 7 or more broken pieces Advanced Urushi Cosmetic Finishing (Roiro-age) Gold polishing techniques Mold-forming repairs Handle repairs Kintsugi on glass EXAMINATIONS: Final Project Selection – Choose 3 out of 4 repaired items for final assessment (your best work). Theory Exam – A written test covering course material. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA： Practical Exam: All 3 selected pieces must achieve a B or A grade. Theory Exam: A minimum score of 30 out of 50 is required. FINAL CETIFICATION: Upon successful completion, participants will receive the Certified Kintsugi Professional certification, issued by the Kintsugi Japan EU Branch. OPPORTUNITIES AFTER CERTIFICATION: You get the opportunities to observe 1-2 times for free in Kintsugi Experience Workshops at MUYŌ for further preparation for your own workshop. After 2–3 supervised sessions in the workshop, you are encouraged to lead and host Kintsugi Experience Workshops independently. As this is a formal academic program, all fees are final and non-refundable under any circumstances. Exams and Certification Requirements The course includes both a theory exam and a practical exam. In order to receive the Kintsugi Specialist Certification, you must successfully complete both exams and achieve the required overall passing score. Certification will only be awarded upon fulfilling all course requirements. Sick Leave Policy Sick leave may be taken if necessary, but no refunds will be issued for missed classes. Arrangements to make up for any missed content will be at the discretion of the course instructors, but attendance is highly encouraged for all sessions.
