George 3rd Gold Chain Necklace
A George III 18ct gold chain with engraved lozenge links interspersed with loops in a knot decoration. Each lozenge link has engraving on three sides and on the fourth side there is a full set of hallmarks for Dublin with the Hibernia mark for Ireland, the head of George 3, 18 for the gold, also unusually the Unicorn for 18ct gold, the initials either EJ or LJ for the maker. Three of the lozenges have no hallmarks and are stamped "West & Son". Some of the hallmarks are rubbed with wear, there is no clasp. There is a tiny pin prick hole at the edge of one of the lozenges but in general this chain is in excellent condition for its age and a unique piece of jewellery. West & Son was a renowned Dublin-based firm of goldsmiths, jewellers, and watchmakers, established around 1720 and closing in early 2010. Queen Victoria was a customer. The chain is 75cm long. Each link is 17mm long x 4mm wide Weight: 35.29 grams
