Set of Four SM05 Wire Dining Chairs by Cees Braakman for Pastoe, Netherlands, 1950s

This set of four SM05 wire dining chairs was designed by Cees Braakman for Pastoe in the Netherlands during the 1950s. The chairs feature an elegant black lacquered wire frame with the characteristic airy silhouette associated with Dutch modernist design of the period. The sculptural metal construction is paired with loose upholstered seat cushions, creating a refined balance between industrial lightness and comfort. Cees Braakman is considered one of the most influential Dutch postwar designers and played a central role in shaping Pastoe’s modern identity. The SM05 model reflects his interest in functional minimalism and innovative construction methods inspired by both Scandinavian and American modernism. The metal bases have been newly powder coated in black, giving the chairs a clean and fresh appearance while respecting the original design. The seat shells remain in original vintage condition with visible traces of age, wear, and some older repairs consistent with use over time.
