Under the tutelage of respected teachers and through the teachings of life, her experience of yoga continues to unfold, evolve and surprise. Her first teacher Emily Kuser initiated the exploration of yoga beyond poses. In a beautiful shala in Ubud, Shena discovered the presence of organic energy within the body, explored meditation techniques, and found a love for mantras. Curiosity roused, she sat in a 10-day vipassana meditation as taught by S.N. Goenka, slow-diving into the abyss of stillness. Those quiet, uneasy days gifted the awareness of anicca, an acceptance that everything that arises passes away. This is one of the most precious gems of wisdom she has received on her yoga journey, and she is forever grateful. Her sadhana continues to unfold easefully with the teachings of her beloved teachers Emil Wendel and Anouk Aoun. They encouraged yogic contemplation and taught her pranayama methods, which are a guiding light at daily meditations. Through Anouk, Shena also fell in love with restorative yoga. Magic lies within asanas, if we pay attention. JoPhee opened her eyes to meridian pathways in yin postures. The lovely Amber Sawyer showed her how to hold space for women to blossom in prenatal postpartum yoga. Octavio Salvador taught the directing and shaping of prana through the practice of traditional tantric hatha yoga. Life is to be lived like a great sadhana—simple, open and committed to showing up. Shena hopes that if she has the chance to guide your practice, that we meet as we are. Yoga is an ever-evolving journey of self-discovery and selfless sharing, so it is important that we honour each other. Everyone is a teacher and a student. May we see the light in one another, and bask in our own inner radiance.
