Natural Amethyst Point suspended within Silver Plated Intertwined Circle on Silver Plated Chain - imported directly from Brazil Pendant is approximately 5cm x 4cm including bail. Chain is approximately 45cm long Amethyst is a purple variety of quartz composed of silicon dioxide (SiO₂). It forms when quartz crystallises from silica-rich fluids, most commonly in hydrothermal veins and in cavities within volcanic rocks such as basalt. Like all quartz, amethyst has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. The purple colour is caused by trace amounts of iron within the quartz crystal structure, modified by natural irradiation from surrounding rocks.
