Jan Blanco 2024
Jan Blanco is a natural white wine from the Empordà region in Catalonia, Spain, crafted by Rim Vins i Vinyes—the personal project of winemaker Jordi Esteve. This wine is a tribute to the heritage of the village of Rabós and the wisdom of its elderly residents, particularly Jordi’s friend Jan, after whom the wine is named. The vineyard, over 100 years old, was planted by Jan’s grandfather after the phylloxera crisis and is one of the oldest parcels in the area. Jan Blanco is made from a blend of 30% Grenache Blanc, 30% Grenache Gris, 20% Macabeu, 20% Carignan Blanc, and a mix of rare native Empordà white varieties such as Picapoll, Jaqué, Jauminc, and Saixalà. The grapes undergo 24 hours of co-maceration before being pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine then rests on its full lees for around six months before bottling, resulting in a wine that is unfined, unfiltered, and with zero added SO₂.
