Antique Art Deco 9K, Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire & Enamel Ring

The era we now know as “Art Deco” received its moniker from the Exposition International des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, held in Paris in 1925, which was largely dedicated to the jewelry arts. Emphasis was placed on the association of art and modern industry. The style was also utilized in architecture, where rectangular blocky forms were often arranged in a geometric fashion, then broken up by curved ornamental elements. But always the aim was a monolithic appearance with applied decorative motifs. It was especially successful in apartment buildings and skyscrapers. In 1917, David Belais of Belais Brothers submitted his special formula of white gold; the patent was applied for in October of 1918, and approved in 1920. The Belais alloy became so popular, that during the 1920s, white gold was sometimes referred to as “Belais metal.” This Art Deco era ring is crafted in white gold, or Belais metal. Blue enamel cross sections the ring face, with a shining white diamond at the center. Bright blue sapphires fill the cross motif, with rosy red rubies filling the open spaces.
