Celestial Veil

Born from fire and smoke, Celestial Veil draws its inspiration from the Veil Nebula. Layers of iridescent blues, deep crimson, smoky blacks, and flashes of silver emerge across the surface, echoing the luminous filaments left behind by an ancient stellar explosion. The unpredictable nature of the raku firing creates a finish that feels both elemental and cosmic, where every mark and colour shift tells its own story. The Veil Nebula is the expanding remnant of a massive supernova that exploded thousands of years ago. Spanning vast distances across the constellation Cygnus, its delicate ribbons of glowing gas drift through space like celestial veils, illuminated by the lingering energy of a star’s final moments. This vessel captures that same sense of movement and transformation, where fire leaves behind something unexpectedly beautiful. Both sculpture and vessel, Celestial Veil invites discovery from every angle. As light moves across its surface, hidden colours and textures emerge, recalling the ever-changing glow of a nebula suspended in the darkness of space: a small fragment of the cosmos brought into the home. No two raku pieces ever emerge the same. During the firing process, flame, smoke, and oxygen interact unpredictably with the glaze, creating rich metallic tones and layered colour fields that resemble distant nebulae and galaxies.
