Brunel Cowl and Shawl Kit by Amelia Burroughs (Annual Six)

We now offer handy kits for all our patterns in The Annual (issue six)! This is the delightful Brunel Cowl and Shawl by Amelia Burroughs, inspired by the bandanas worn by the stokers who kept the steam trains running. All kits include enough yarn to knit either the shawl or the cowl, along with a fab project bag to keep it all safe. Amelia Burrough's Brunel Cowl and Shawl takes its name from Isambard Kingdom Brunel, one of the most influential British engineers during the 19th century. As well as being responsible for the construction of the London - Bristol train line as the first engineer of the Great Western Railway, he also shaped the maritime endeavours of Britain by developing large-scale steamships that sailed across the Atlantic. The cowl and shawl are not only a fantastic travel accessory no matter whether you choose to take the sea or land route, they are also a nostalgic nod to the bandanas worn by the stokers who kept those steam-powered engines going. The combination of textured stitches and playful yarnovers remind us of a series of train tracks unfolding in the distance. Amelia's pattern is designed for a Sport-weight yarn, and so we chose to knit two samples each of the cowl and the shawl to show you how both would look like in our Seafarer Sport and Yarnadelic Sport. We have a few different options in each yarn available! You're more than welcome to leave us a note if you'd like to swap a colour for another one!
