Blue Rug Juniper is an exceptionally low, creeping evergreen groundcover that forms a dense mat of silvery blue foliage. It generally stays only 4 to 6 inches tall while spreading 5 feet or more, with foliage that may take on a purplish cast in winter. Its trailing habit is especially effective on sunny slopes, retaining walls, rock gardens, and other dry areas where erosion control is needed. Plant in full sun and well-drained soil. Once established, it tolerates drought, wind, salt, and poor soils, but it should not be planted where the soil remains wet.
