Product Highlights Bulb count: 10 corms per pack Flower colour: Rose-pink with a softer pink to white centre Plant height: 25 to 40 cm Bloom time: August to October (spring) Naturalising: Yes Sun requirements: Full sun to light shade Soil type: Well-drained, enriched with compost Frost tolerance: Tolerates light frost down to 0 degrees Celsius Planting Instructions Plant Freesia Parigo Giant Pink Devotion corms in autumn, from March through to June, when the soil begins to cool. Choose a position in full sun or one that receives light dappled shade for part of the day. Prepare the soil to a depth of about 20 cm, ensuring it is light, well-drained, and enriched with compost or aged organic matter. Plant corms with the pointed end facing upward at a depth of approximately 5 to 7 cm and space them 5 to 10 cm apart. For pots and containers, use a high-quality free-draining potting mix and consider adding a layer of gravel at the base for extra drainage. Group planting in clusters of ten or more will create the most impressive display and the strongest fragrance impact. Watering and Care Water corms well after planting and then keep the soil lightly moist through the growing season. Once buds appear, increase watering to a good soak once a week, but avoid waterlogging as this can cause corm rot. Apply a slow-release fertiliser at planting time, then top-dress with a liquid fertiliser every two to three weeks once shoots emerge. As the flowers open, regular feeding will encourage a longer blooming period. Once flowering finishes, allow the foliage to die back naturally, as this process feeds the corm for the following season. Reduce watering as the leaves yellow and the plant enters summer dormancy. Pruning Advice Deadhead spent blooms regularly to redirect energy back into the corm and encourage continued flowering. Cut flower stems for indoor arrangements when the first one or two buds on the stem have opened, as the remaining buds will continue to bloom beautifully in a vase. Do not remove foliage until it has completely yellowed and dried, as the leaves are essential for replenishing the corm. Freesias left to naturalise may form thick clumps over several years. Lift and divide clumps every three to four years in late summer to maintain vigour and airflow. Climate Zone Guide Cool and Alpine (ACT, VIC Highlands, NSW Tablelands): Excellent results. The cool winters provide ideal conditions for corm establishment. Provide frost protection with straw mulch in areas prone to hard frosts below minus 2 degrees Celsius. Temperate (Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, coastal NSW): Ideal growing zone. Freesias thrive in the mild winters and long, cool springs typical of these regions. Reliable repeat performance year after year. Subtropical (Brisbane, coastal QLD): Can perform well in cooler microclimates. Plant in a position with afternoon shade and ensure excellent drainage. Results may vary in warmer coastal areas. Tropical and Arid (Darwin, Far North QLD): Not recommended. Freesias require cool winter temperatures to initiate bud formation and will not perform reliably in tropical conditions. Important Warnings Freesia corms and plant parts may cause mild irritation if ingested and can be mildly toxic to pets. Keep corms stored safely away from children and pets before planting. Some individuals may experience skin sensitivity when handling corms, so wearing gloves during planting is recommended. If ingestion occurs, seek medical or veterinary advice.
