Formal Saline (10%)
Formal Saline 10% Formal Saline 10% is a ready-to-use isotonic fixative solution for the preservation of tissue specimens before histological examination and laboratory processing. Its isotonic formulation helps minimise osmotic damage to erythrocytes and may support improved red blood cell preservation compared with standard buffered formalin. The solution penetrates tissue effectively, stabilising cellular components and helping preserve tissue structure and morphology during handling, processing and examination. Formal saline is suitable for routine histology and pathology applications. However, unlike buffered formalin, it may produce formalin pigment in certain tissue samples. This should be considered when selecting the most appropriate fixative for the specimen and intended analysis.
