The cool, dense green of Hemlock gave us a starting point to explore his mask without explanation. The dry leaves of the years his house sat empty, waiting for him to return, are represented by allspice, which starts as a dry heat and becomes more apparent as the green of Hemlock settles. Benzoin is a resinous, sweet note that we wanted to keep close to the skin. It has weight and staying power. Michael stands in a doorway for several seconds before anyone notices him. We wanted that same slow recognition.
