Thunderhead Dry Fly
The Thunderhead is a classic Southern Appalachian dry fly, originated by Fred Hall of Bryson City, North Carolina, and a longtime favorite in the Great Smoky Mountains. Its bright white calf tail wings and full hackle make it a superb high-floating attractor for freestone, pocket water streams. Tied in the Wulff style with upright calf tail wing, a brown and grizzly hackle tail, gray dubbed body, and mixed Coachman brown and grizzly hackle, it rides high and stays visible in fast, broken water. A proven producer for wild trout - keep a few in your box in a range of sizes.
