Large French Antique Tian Bowl with Pale Yellow Glaze 15"
A beautiful large antique French tian bowl with a soft, pale yellow glazed interior and a warm, naturally weathered terracotta exterior. Traditionally used in French kitchens for food preparation, these earthenware bowls are also known as grésales or jattes. Dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, this substantial bowl has a classic, gently tapered shape with a broad rim and a small pouring spout. The pale yellow glaze has been applied to the interior, with irregular drips extending over the exterior rim, contrasting beautifully with the rich earthy tones of the unglazed terracotta. The interior retains its lovely pale yellow colour, while subtle variations in the clay, visible throwing marks and the naturally aged exterior reflect the bowl's traditional manufacture and history. At 38 cm wide, it makes a wonderful centrepiece for a farmhouse dining table, kitchen island or large rustic dresser. Its understated colouring works particularly well in French country, Mediterranean and rustic interiors.
