Female Bust from an Anthopoid Sarcophagus

Origin: Egypt Circa: 30th Dynasty to Ptolemaic Period, 480 BC to 30 BC Dimensions: 34” Height x 16.5” Width (86 cm x 42 cm) Medium: Wood This stunning and well preserved coffin fragment is a wooden bust from an anthropoid sarcophagus for a woman. As is characteristic for this period, the head appears to be disproportionately large for the body, showcasing equally large features. A solid blue wig covers the woman's head and upper torso which frames and elegantly contrasts the cream colored face. A thick, heavily ornamented trim sits between the lappets of the wig while the exquisitely detailed broad collar arches gently below. Substantial areas of gesso and polychrome have been preserved throughout. This item comes with a custom made UV protected plexi glass display case.
