This process happens after the sweatshirt is fully constructed and uses high heat and extended wash cycles to drive pigment into the fabric surface. That heat intentionally breaks in the cotton, creating a faded, worn appearance that cannot be achieved with regular dyeing. Because of the heat involved, these sweatshirts are cut slightly larger on purpose. During the pigment-dye process, the cotton shrinks and settles. Once finished, pigment-dyed styles will never shrink smaller than non-pigment colors — they simply retain a slightly larger fit. On top of the pigment-dye process, the sleeves are hand-cut raw edge, finished short like a shirtsleeve instead of a standard hem. The raw, unfinished edge frays naturally over time and wear, adding another layer of texture that can't be replicated with a factory-finished cuff. This is a longer, more expensive production process that adds handling, washing, hand-cutting, and risk — one most manufacturers avoid.
