Vintage Oil Painting Forest Nocturnal Tonalist Impasto Board Brutalist MCM

This striking vintage oil on board painting is a beautifully atmospheric and emotionally resonant tonalist forest landscape find. The composition plunges the viewer directly into the heart of a dense woodland interior, with tall, slender tree trunks rising vertically across the picture plane and a small luminous clearing breaking through the understory at center. The artist's use of heavy impasto brushwork creates a rich, tactile surface that feels genuinely alive. The bark, damp ground, and shadowed foliage all carry a textural weight and organic character that flat or thinly painted work simply cannot achieve. A striking golden-yellow nocturnal glow illuminates the upper background, cutting through deep indigos, mossy greens, and charcoal silhouettes to create the atmospheric tension that makes this painting so compelling. The tonalist tradition, which emphasizes mood, shifting light, and emotional atmosphere over sharp representational detail, is one of the most historically significant American painting traditions. Works of this quality and subject matter are consistently sought after by collectors of American landscape painting. A genuinely moving and accomplished original oil painting with authentic period character and fine artistic merit. H: 17.75" | W: 22.75" | D: 1" Condition: Item is in vintage condition.
