Mordrelle Blanc de Blanc 2019 Consistently one of the most expressive and exciting Sparkling wines produced out of the Adelaide Hills. Martin s dedication to longer tirage times continues to pay dividends, 6 and a half years on lees for under $60 is remarkable to say the least - but this is all quality and disgorged at the perfect time to offer decadent, rich Chardonnay, reminiscent of the great grower Champagne houses. Handpicked from a small vineyard in Lenswood, comprised of three clones of Chardonnay on three different rootstocks, planted in the early 2000s as a research trial vineyard (ex SARDI). Tiraged in November 2018 after spending that vintage in stainless steel tank on lees - this is disgorged after 6 years on lees and bottled without any dosage. I always ask Martin what the trick is to building these wines, as year in year out he has continued to build complexity and power - but he is yet to give away any secrets. Decadent white and yellow orchard fruits, wood spice, almost French patisserie like, with a beautifully poised mousse that gives rise to a gentle richness through the mid palate. It finishes delightfully chalky and dry, with a lovely phenolic edge, powdery and open which many Brut Natures cannot lay claim! Bravo
