What is it: The PsySquatch Vintage Wash Boxy Fleece Hoodie is a 390 GSM pullover in a fleece lined poly cotton knit, vintage washed after it is sewn so the color sits in soft clouds rather than a flat block. Boxy oversized body, drop shoulder, kangaroo pocket, ribbed cuffs and hem, with the PsySquatch line art printed full size across the back and the Phantasmagorical drop mark on the chest. Purple, Black, Rose Red, or Mint Green, sizes S to 2XL. What is the PsySquatch design about? Fine white pen and ink line work, printed full size across the back. A sasquatch walks in profile mid stride, head turned back over its shoulder toward you, every hair drawn in individually. A third eye sits open in green on its forehead. Behind the head and shoulders a Flower of Life mandala is drawn in single weight line, wide enough to read as a halo. Teal filaments run out of its back and down its arm and fan into a hanging root system, and at its feet a cluster of mushrooms pushes up through soil threaded with rust orange roots. A century of grainy footage went looking for an animal hiding in the woods. This one is not hiding, and it is not separate from what it walks through: the mycelium is growing out of its back, the mushrooms are coming up where it steps. The woods are what is walking. What 390 GSM means in a fleece hoodie Most hoodies sold as heavyweight sit between 280 and 340 GSM. This one is 390, which is 11.5 oz per square yard, in a fleece lined knit the supplier rates thick. That is a real winter layer. It has enough body to hold the boxy line off the shoulder instead of collapsing onto it, and enough warmth to be the outer piece on a cold night with nothing over it. The blend is 53% polyester, 42% cotton and 5% other fibers, and the polyester majority is deliberate. It is what lets the vintage wash settle into soft gradients instead of blotches, and it is why the body keeps its shape and its length wash after wash where an all cotton fleece slowly shrinks and twists. Cotton gives it the hand. Polyester makes it keep it. The vintage wash and the boxy cut The wash goes on after the garment is sewn, so the tone shifts across the panels, pooling lighter where the fabric caught more of the fade and darker in the seams and around the pocket opening. Every hoodie comes out slightly different from the one before it. It arrives as if it already has a couple of winters behind it and softens from there. The cut is boxy and cropped closer to the waist than our longer hoodies, with a deep drop shoulder and a kangaroo pocket set just above the hem rib. It sits square, which is the shape the back print wants, and it stacks cleanly over the waffle long sleeve in this same line.
