Full-colour 3D printing has meant one of two things: a filament printer switching between a handful of spools, or an industrial colour jetting system costing tens of thousands of euros. The CJ270 sits between them. It jets droplets of photopolymer from seven printheads — cyan, magenta, yellow, black, white, clear and a water-soluble support — and cures each layer instantly with UV light. Colour is mixed at the droplet level, so gradients, skin tones and translucent effects come out of the machine finished. That is a genuinely different result from multi-colour FDM. Four things are worth understanding up front. Materials are proprietary. The CJ270 runs only on Flashforge's dedicated CJ270 materials; third-party resins are not supported and can damage the printer. Each material card activates once and transfers its full balance to the machine. Material cost is a real running cost — budget for it alongside the printer. Print times are long. As a guide, models under 10 cm take up to around 10 hours, around 10 cm roughly 15 hours or more, and around 15 cm 25 hours or more. ColorPrint gives an estimate after slicing. The build volume is compact. 180 × 120 × 100 mm suits figures, models, prototypes and display pieces — not large parts. Opened materials have a shelf life. Unopened materials last 18 months; once opened, use them within about 2 months. It suits steady use better than occasional prints. Safety and workspace The CJ270 uses UV-curing photopolymer materials. Uncured material can irritate skin and eyes: wear nitrile gloves when handling materials or uncured parts, and work in a ventilated room. The built-in carbon filter reduces odour but does not replace ventilation. Dispose of used support solution and waste material according to local regulations, never into the drain. A multi-colour FDM printer switches between a few spools of coloured filament, so each area of the model is one of those colours. The CJ270 jets tiny droplets of CMYK, white and clear photopolymer and cures them with UV light, mixing colour at the droplet level. The result is continuous tone — smooth gradients, skin tones and translucency — with 7 µm layers rather than the 50 µm or more typical of FDM. Can I use third-party materials? No. The CJ270 currently supports Flashforge's dedicated CJ270 materials only — Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, White, Clear and Support. Third-party materials are not supported and may damage the printer. Each material card activates once, transferring its full balance to the machine. How long does a print take? It depends on size, thickness and orientation. The ColorPrint slicer gives an estimated print time after slicing. Is post-processing needed? Colour is printed in, so no painting is needed. The water-soluble supports dissolve when the part is soaked in water; an ultrasonic cleaner reduces removal from around 10 hours to 1–2 hours. For a more refined finish you can lightly sand or polish, or apply a thin gloss coat and UV cure it. Does the CJ270 have Wi-Fi? Not at present. Files are sent from a connected computer through ColorPrint over LAN, or transferred by USB drive. Flashforge has said Wi-Fi support is planned for a later update.
