Matcha Bowl - Matchawan Tsubaki
The Tsubaki bowl is a unique matcha vessel that has gained its uniqueness thanks to its precise handcrafted workmanship on the potter's wheel. The bowl was created in Gifu Prefecture, where unique vessels called Shino have been fired in the Oroshi district of Toki City for hundreds of years. Tsubaki means camellia flower in Japanese. Kamelia is intricately intertwined with the cultural and spiritual life of Japan. In various forms of art it means recognition and admiration. This flower represents the spirit of depth, self-reflection and inner strength, qualities that are highly valued in Japanese culture. Camellias also symbolize love, loyalty, and humility, making them ideal for expressing gratitude to family and friends. The Tsubaki bowl will work well as a duet with the Ume Bowl. Matcha preparation in a bowl The traditional way to prepare matcha comes from the Japanese Tea Ceremony. It involves using a matcha bowl, a bamboo whisk- chasen and a bamboo spoon- chashaku. Place 2 chashaku spoons of matcha (1,5g) in a matcha bowl and pour 100ml of hot water (80 °C). Chasen in hand, vigorously whisk your matcha from the wrist in m-shaped, not circular, motion. In about 20 seconds your bowl should be filled with a perfect jade-green foam. You can add more water now if you like your matcha to be less strong. Watch how Hitomi Saito, cofounder of Moya Matcha, prepares perfect matcha.
