Louis Philippe Secretaire, 19th Century

An antique Louis Philippe secretaire with a white marble top, richly figured bookmatched walnut veneer and a practical fitted interior. The fall-front desk section opens to reveal a leather-inset writing surface, small internal drawers and open storage; below, a pair of cabinet doors provides further enclosed storage. The plinth base and rounded front feet give the piece a grounded, architectural form. Originally designed for correspondence and document storage, it works equally well today as a compact home office piece, hallway cabinet or decorative bureau. Provenance: France.
