This one has lots of wonderful patina on the outside: roughness with stains, visible wear, at one time finished with a shiny glaze, now fading. Lots of scratches and one large, deep crack on the rim. The inside shows years of use, this piece was likely passed down for generations. It is Unmarked but purchased in the island of Puerto Rico, it reflects the rustic, traditional artistry of the island's craftsmen. How to Use: A great gift for your favorite home chef or mortar collector! Not merely for utilitarian kitchen use, mortars can be turned into objects of art to showcase their patina. We've seen them with a glass w/water inserted to keep herbs fresh on the counter, holding pens/pencils, etc. It will hold a myriad of small objects depending on which room it's displayed in.
