Located in Castelnuovo dell'Abate area of Montalcino, the winery was founded in 1975 by Gabriele Mastrojanni, and produced its first vintage in 1978. The winery was acquired by the illy Group in 2008, making deep investments into the winery and its estate. WINEMAKER: Giulia Härri FARMING: Practicing organic VARIETY: 100% Sangiovese TERROIR: To the South-east of Montalcino, today we extend over 110 hectares. In the Castelnuovo dell’Abate area, a mosaic of complex soils hosts 41 hectares dedicated to vine cultivation with altitudes ranging from 180 to 420 meters above the sea level. Of lacustrine origin, the soil alternates between clays, sands, sandstones, marls of Castelnuovo dell’Abate and polygenic conglomerates originating from the Santa Fiora and Pietraforte formations. VINIFICATION: The grapes, hand-harvested and carefully selected, are gently pressed and transferred into brushed and resined concrete vats for gravity flow. maceration: on the skins for a minimum of 30 days. AGING: 36 months in Allier, Vosges, Slavonia,Black Forest and Styria oak barrels (16-54 hl). At least 6 months in bottle. TASTING NOTES: Deep garnet in color with a layered bouquet of black cherry, dried rose, and forest herbs. The palate reveals fine-grained tannins, dark red fruit, and savory spice, balanced by firm acidity and a long, mineral-driven finish. Elegant yet powerful, with the depth and restraint characteristic of high-altitude Brunello. FOOD PAIRINGS: Roasted ribeye, leg of lamb, pasta bolognese.
