LOT. 204
Lot. 204 Among the earliest forms of the short work jacket, the Type 1 emerged in the opening decades of the twentieth century as a practical garment for labour and daily wear. Its cropped length, small shirt-style collar, and straightforward construction were intended for movement, durability, and ease of use in working environments. The Lot. 204 is patterned after an original Type 1 example, preserving the compact proportions and functional simplicity that defined the early design. The outer is cut from black Tuscan polished brown-core steerhide measuring approximately 1.5 mm in thickness. Firm yet supple, the leather carries a natural grain and bolder sheen, intended to wear gradually and develop character through prolonged use. Fastening is by Japanese raw metal two-prong buttons, chosen for strength and allowed to oxidise naturally with age. The body is lined in charcoal grey herringbone wool sourced from a Yorkshire mill, providing warmth while maintaining the practical character of the original garment. Cut short in keeping with historic examples, the Type 1 remains a straightforward working jacket - honest in construction, durable in wear, and built to improve with time.
