A New York native born in 1919, Joseph Jasgur carved out a niche in 1940s Hollywood as a freelance photographer with a keen eye and hustling work ethic. In 1946 he shot the session that defined his career, with a young aspiring actress named Norma Jeane Dougherty. Jasgur produced dozens of glamour and casual portraits of Marilyn Monroe that became part of the portfolio she showed to 20th Century Fox, helping launch her career.
