Vintage Collectible Banana Fibre Bashofu Piece
A vintage collectible bashōfu (banana fibre cloth) from Okinawa. Bashōfu is one of Okinawa's most celebrated traditional textiles, handwoven from the fibres of the Japanese banana plant. It has a long history and is renowned for its labour-intensive production process, requiring exceptional skill, time, and care. This piece dates from the early to mid-20th century and was originally a sleeve from a kimono. Woven in natural beige with fine brown stripes, it beautifully showcases the crisp texture, lightness and refined craftsmanship.
