Alder Floating Shelf

An alder floating shelf brings a warm, even-toned surface to a wall. Alder is a smooth, close-grained hardwood with a gentle honey color and a little quiet character here and there, easy to live with and easy to match to what a room already has. Because we build each one to order, it arrives at the exact length and depth your wall calls for rather than the nearest size a store happened to stock: as slim as 1.25 inches for a clean ledge, up to a bold 7 inches with real presence, cut to your measurement down to the eighth of an inch. It holds the books, the framed photographs, and the everyday things a room gathers, and it looks settled there because it was made for that wall and no other. Underneath, it is solid hardwood construction, and what carries it is a hidden Studlock steel bracket — included with every shelf and matched to the size you order, so you never have to guess which bracket fits. The support does the work and takes none of the attention: you see alder and whatever you set on it, not a screw, not a corbel, nothing propping it up. Fastened properly into the studs, the bracket holds up to fifty pounds per stud, ready for a full row of hardcovers or a season of everyday display. Finish it to match the room across a wide range of options — leave it Unfinished to seal yourself, keep it pale under Natural or Natural Clear Coat, or take it deep with Brazilian Cherry, American Walnut, Special Walnut, or Espresso.
