Golden Barb Scientific Name: Barbodes semifasciolatus var. schuberti The Golden Barb, also commonly known as the Gold Barb or Schuberti Barb, is a hardy and colourful freshwater fish known for its vibrant golden-yellow body, subtle dark markings, and active personality. Their bright colouring and constant movement make them an excellent addition to many tropical community aquariums. Golden Barbs are social schooling fish and should be kept in a group of at least 6, although larger groups are always recommended. When kept in good numbers, they display more natural behaviour, feel more secure, and create an impressive splash of colour throughout the aquarium. They thrive in well-maintained aquariums with plenty of open swimming space alongside planted areas, driftwood, and other natural décor. They readily accept a varied diet of quality flakes and pellets, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp and daphnia, along with occasional vegetable-based foods. Golden Barbs are generally peaceful but are active swimmers, so they are best kept with similarly sized community fish that can comfortably handle their energetic nature. A hardy, colourful, and active schooling fish that brings a brilliant golden glow and plenty of movement to the aquarium.
