Pair of Victorian Wedgwood Green Majolica Sunflower Plates These two Victorian Wedgwood plates are from the Sunflower pattern, one of the factory’s earliest and most recognisable majolica designs. Each is deeply moulded with a large flower head surrounded by a basketweave border, with the translucent green glaze bringing out the detail of the design. Made in 1878 and 1879, the plates share closely matched deep green glazes. On the 1879 plate, the glaze has pooled more heavily across the edge of the well, creating a circle of deeper, almost black-green colour. This original firing variation gives each plate its own character while allowing them to sit naturally as a pair. Condition Excellent antique condition. Both plates are free from chips, cracks, repairs or restoration, and the glaze remains rich. Dimensions Approximately 22 cm diameter each. Origin Wedgwood, England, 1878 and 1879. WORLDWIDE SHIPPING Worldwide shipping is available. Each piece is carefully packed to ensure it arrives safely. Collector’s Note Wedgwood introduced the Sunflower pattern in 1860, during the first year of the factory’s majolica production. By the late 1870s, the sunflower had become closely associated with the Aesthetic Movement and its interest in bold, natural forms.
